I make art so that I may join disparate elements- order/chaos, expansion/contraction, microscopic/macroscopic, structure/fluidity- when brought together, these opposites create a new awareness. Often I join what I thought I knew with what I didn’t know, resulting in a feeling of humility and wonder; creating a space for experiment and discovery.
I am inspired by the seemingly incongruous tableau of fierce fecundity and serene stillness that is present in each moment: the constant motion that sustains life cycles,
from the biology of a single cell to the millions of cells that comprise a human body, organic matter cycles through phases of growth and decay that appears to be underpinned by a consciousness of measured awareness that perpetually reveals my place within this tableau.
I make drawings and paintings smaller than this page, to works much bigger than myself. I also make installations using provisional materials such as: string, powder, soap, paper and disposable plastics. I see these processes as different ways to reach a space in and between time, allowing visions that cycle through deep, unawakened realms to gently rise to the surface.
